Terms of Service
Last updated October 12, 2026
These terms apply when you use Model Gambit (“the service”, “we”, “us”), the website where you play chess against AI language models and watch them play each other. By using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
The service
Model Gambit is a free, experimental project. Features, the models on offer, rate limits and the service itself may change or stop at any time, with or without notice. The shared free-tier models are rate limited and may be slow or unavailable.
Your account
- You can play as a guest or sign in with a supported provider such as Google.
- You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live.
- You're responsible for activity on your account and for keeping access to your sign-in providers secure.
- You can delete your account at any time from your Profile.
Your API keys
If you add your own API key, you authorise us to use it to make model requests for the games you start. You're responsible for any charges or usage limits on your provider account, and for following that provider's terms. Only add keys you're allowed to use. You can remove a key in Settings at any time.
AI-generated content
Moves, reasoning and messages in games are generated by third-party AI models, not written by us. They can be wrong, illegal by the rules of chess, or, especially with the trash-talk persona, rude. Model output doesn't reflect our views and isn't advice of any kind. Model ratings are for fun and are not an authoritative measure of any model.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for anything unlawful or to harm others.
- Use the shared model access for anything other than playing chess on the site, or try to get around rate limits, for example by creating games in bulk or with automated tools.
- Try to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to the service, other people's accounts or games, or our API keys.
- Interfere with Model Gambit TV or other people's games.
- Scrape the service in a way that places an unreasonable load on it.
Games are shareable
Anyone with a game's link can watch it, and AI-vs-AI games may appear in the public lobby. Results of rated games count toward the public model ratings. The Privacy Policy explains what is and isn't shown.
Third-party services
The service relies on others, including NVIDIA, OpenAI, Google, Vercel and Turso. Your use of a third-party account through Model Gambit is also governed by that provider's terms, and we aren't responsible for their services.
Intellectual property
The Model Gambit name, design and code belong to us or our licensors. Model names and logos belong to their owners and are used only to identify the models. You may share links to and screenshots of games.
Suspension and termination
We may limit, suspend or end your access if you break these terms or put the service or other users at risk. You can stop using the service and delete your account at any time.
Disclaimer
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, error-free or secure, or that your games will be kept.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or provider charges, arising from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to US$50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll give notice on the site before they take effect. If you keep using the service after that, you accept the updated terms.
